What New Jersey law says about ibogaine
Ibogaine is Schedule I in New Jersey (N.J.S.A. 24:21-5). New Jersey's enacted psychedelic step is about psilocybin: P.L.2025, c.296, signed 20 January 2026, funds $6 million of psilocybin research at three hospitals. It legalises nothing and does not cover ibogaine.
- $6 million for hospital psilocybin research. P.L.2025, c.296 creates the Psilocybin Behavioral Health Access and Therapy Pilot Program and an 11-member Psychedelic Therapy and Research Advisory Board, with $2 million each for three hospitals.
- Psilocybin possession downgraded in 2021. Under P.L.2021, c.9, possessing one ounce or less of psilocybin is a disorderly persons offence.
- Ibogaine unchanged. Ibogaine remains in Schedule I of the New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substances Act (N.J.S.A. 24:21-5).
